How Do I Correctly Fit a Lamp and Bracket to a Road Cone?

Ensuring Proper Lamp Placement Without Obstructing Cone Visibility

When attaching a lamp and cone bracket to a road cone, the most important rule is to ensure that you do not cover or reduce the visibility of the reflective sleeve on the cone. This reflective area is critical for maintaining visibility and safety, especially in low light.

A common mistake is placing the lamp upside down, with the lens pointing downward. This is incorrect.

Lamps such as the Maxilite, along with other JSP lamps, are designed with drain holes at the bottom to allow moisture to escape. The lamp must be fitted so that the lens points upward, allowing water to drain away properly and keeping the electronics safe.

If the lamp is installed upside down:

  • Rainwater may collect inside the casing, leading to the lamp switching off.
  • The reflective part of the cone may be blocked, reducing visibility and creating a safety risk.

Always make sure the lamp is mounted securely and upright, using the bracket as designed, and positioned in a way that keeps the reflective part of the cone fully exposed.

Key Points:

  • Do not cover the cone’s reflective sleeve with a lamp or bracket.
  • Always install the lamp with the lens facing up.
  • Maxilite and other JSP lamps include drain holes to prevent water build-up.
  • Incorrect installation can lead to the lamp failing and reduced visibility.
  • Secure the lamp properly so that both light and reflection are clearly visible.
