HSE guidance is that a tight fitting respiratory should not be used with stubble. A test subject should be clean shaven within 8 hours of doing the fit test. The HSE have published reports demonstrating that the performance of a tight fitting facepiece drops off as stubble grows. Some individuals may need to consider shaving more than once a day to get the best level of protection from a respirator.
