What Is the Shelf Life and Useful Life of an Industrial Safety Helmet?

Understanding the Lifespan of JSP Safety Helmets for Safe Use and Storage

There is no specific requirement in the EN or ANSI standards for the shelf life of an industrial safety helmet. However, manufacturers are required to provide guidance on the helmet’s overall lifespan and period of use.

For JSP safety helmets, the total lifespan is up to 10 years when properly stored and maintained. This includes:

  • A shelf life of up to 5 years when stored in suitable, dry, and cool conditions.
  • A useful life of up to 5 years from the date the helmet is first put into service.

This means that a helmet stored for 5 years can then be used safely for a further 5 years, provided it passes regular inspection and shows no signs of damage, degradation, or wear that would affect its performance.

To determine the age of a JSP helmet, check the date of manufacture stamped under the peak. This date is essential for calculating both storage and usage periods.

Always ensure regular inspection and maintenance are carried out to guarantee safety throughout the helmet’s life.
