EN 14052 is the European standard for high-performance industrial safety helmets, designed to offer an increased level of protection over standard helmets, particularly in environments where there is a risk of side impact.
To meet EN 14052, a helmet must undergo the following tests:
Impact tests involving 150 joules of energy in total:
- 100J impact applied to the top of the helmet
- 50J impact applied to the side of the helmet (up to 60° from the crown)
Penetration tests using a blade striker:
- A 25J impact to the top of the helmet (dropped from 2.5m)
- A 20J impact to the side of the helmet (dropped from 2m)
These rigorous testing requirements ensure that helmets certified to EN 14052 provide enhanced protection not only from overhead hazards but also from lateral impacts, making them suitable for high-risk environments such as construction, utilities, and industrial maintenance.
