Safe Use of Disposable Dust Masks
Disposable dust masks are designed to be used only once. This means after you have worn a mask for a task, you should throw it away and use a new one next time. In general, you should not wear a single disposable mask for more than eight hours at a time. This roughly corresponds to one work shift.
Shorter Use in Very Dusty Environments
In environments with a high concentration of dust or hazardous particles, a mask may require more frequent replacement. If the mask's filter becomes clogged with dust, harmful particles will no longer be filtered, the efficiency of the mask /filter will become compromised. For this reason, it is crucial not to wear a disposable mask for too long. Replace the mask sooner if you are working in very dusty conditions and you notice it becoming clogged or harder to breathe through.
Safe Disposal of Used Masks
Always dispose of used masks safely. A mask that has been used to filter out dust or dangerous particles will hold some of that material on it. This means the mask itself will be contaminated. To avoid exposing yourself or others to that hazard, dispose of the mask referring to local guidelines. Cut the respirator in half before disposing.
Key Points:
- Use a disposable dust mask only once, then discard it.
- Do not wear one mask for more than 8 hours (one working shift).
- In very dusty or hazardous conditions, replace the mask sooner if it becomes clogged.
-
