JSP has partnered with MIRA, the UK’s only full-scale aerodynamic wind tunnel, to test and further improve our road safety barrier systems.
In accordance with The Safety at Street Works and Road Works: Code of Practice, barriers used in street works must withstand specific wind classes:
Class C Wind Resistance
Barriers must be stable against Class C winds (31 km/h) from any direction. The Code of Practice advises that ballast or cross-bracing may be required to achieve this level of stability.
Class B Wind Resistance
In Scotland, there is an additional requirement for unattended worksites: barriers must be able to withstand Class B winds (63 km/h) blowing from any direction when a site is left unattended for 24 hours or more.
Through wind tunnel testing at MIRA, JSP ensures our barrier systems not only meet these requirements but often exceed them. The data obtained also informs the design of future products focused on maximum wind stability.
To support barrier performance in strong winds, JSP has developed the following products:
- SureFoot Bloc™: A 6.5kg heavy-duty recycled PVC foot designed to provide ballast to barriers, offering a more robust alternative to traditional sandbags.
- SurePole™: A telescopic stability pole used with the Frontier® Cross-Link® barrier. It improves stability by either linking two barriers or attaching them to a SureFoot Bloc™.
These products are tested both individually and in combination with barriers, helping us deliver safe, reliable solutions for street and road works.
JSP remains committed to enhancing road safety worldwide through continuous product innovation and investment in advanced manufacturing technologies.
