What Type of Respiratory Filter Is Required for Asbestos Work?

Recommended Respiratory Protection for Safe Asbestos Handling

Work involving asbestos should only be carried out by trained professionals due to the serious health risks associated with exposure. When selecting respiratory protection for asbestos work, it is essential to use the correct grade of filter to ensure maximum safety.

Employees and supervisors need to receive appropriate training for any work being carried out with asbestos. Anyone with the potential to disturb asbestos should undertake an asbestos awareness course to understand how best to avoid contact. There is no ‘safe level‘ of exposure when working with asbestos , choosing the right personal protective equipment will minimise the chances of inhaling asbestos fibres.

The appropriate filter for asbestos is a P3 filter, which offers the highest level of protection against fine toxic dusts, such as asbestos fibres.

For optimum safety, we recommend using a Full Face Respirator fitted with a P3 filter. This provides both respiratory and facial properties protection.

To confirm the respirator provides an adequate seal and protection, a Quantitative Face Fit Test must be conducted. This test ensures the mask fits the wearer correctly and delivers the expected level of protection.

Key points:
