Full body harnesses are designed to provide protection against the dangers of falling from height. Primarily intended for fall arrest purposes, harnesses support the whole body of the wearer during and following a fall, enabling the fall to be arrested safely. Full body harnesses can also be used as a body holding device in restraint systems.
It is important to fit harnesses correctly, in order to ensure protection and prevent injuries. Fitting instructions for harnesses of different styles can vary, and users should follow the instructions supplied with the harness carefully.
Below is a general guide to fitting and adjusting JSP height safety harnesses.
1-point, 2-point, and 3-point harnesses
- Hold the harness by the shoulder straps and let the leg straps hang free, making sure they are not tangled.
- Pass arms through the shoulder straps.
- Pull the harness down so the sub-pelvic strap sits under the buttocks.
- Connect the chest buckle and then the waist buckle (if fitted). Adjust waist belt to a comfortably tight fit.
- Connect the leg buckles and adjust to a snug fit.
- Adjust attachment points to correct positions. The rear attachment point should be positioned between the shoulder blades and the front attachment in the centre of the chest.
5-point harnesses
- Hold the harness by the waist belt and let the leg loops hang free.
- Step into the waist belt and through the leg loops. Adjust the waist belt to a comfortably tight fit.
- Pull the back strap up and over the shoulders, making sure it is not tangled. Position dorsal D-ring. Securely buckle to waist belt webbing.
- Securely buckle leg loops, ensuring no twists.
- Adjust the harness to fit tightly.
