What is a combination filter and what is its purpose?

Understanding multi-gas and particulate protection with ABEK1P3 filters

A combination filter is designed to protect against multiple hazardous substances by incorporating more than one type of standard gas or particulate filter into a single unit. Each type of protection is identified by a different colour band on the filter, indicating the specific substance it defends against.

JSP’s most commonly used combination filter is the ABEK1P3 PressToCheck™ filter, which includes the following colour bands:

  • Brown (A): Organic gases and vapours with a boiling point above 65°C
  • Grey (B): Inorganic gases and vapours (excluding carbon monoxide)
  • Yellow (E): Acid gases and vapours
  • Green (K): Ammonia and organic ammonia derivatives
  • White (P3): Solid and liquid particulates (dusts, mists, and fumes)

This combination of filters provides a high level of protection in environments where multiple airborne hazards are present, making it suitable for a variety of industrial applications.

JSP can supply the correct combination filter to suit the specific hazards present in your workplace.

Key points:

  • Combination filters offer protection against several hazard types in one unit.
  • The ABEK1P3 PressToCheck™ filter includes five protection bands: A, B, E, K and P3.
  • Suitable for environments with mixed gas, vapour, and particulate hazards.
  • Each colour band indicates protection against a specific group of substances.
  • JSP can help select the appropriate filter based on your working environment.
